FAQ

Nutrients

Q: What is pH?

A: pH stands for potential hydrogen. It is measured on a scale of 0-14 and is used to tell us how acidic or alkaline the water source is. Pure water typically has a neutral ph of 7. The solution is acidic if the pH is below 7 and alkaline if the ph is above 7.

Q: Is measuring pH important?

A: Yes, plants best absorb nutrients grown hydroponically between a pH range of 5.3-6.3.

Q. When growing hydroponically what is the most common pH?

A. 5.8-6.0

Q: What is EC?

A: EC stands for Electrical Conductivity. It is used to measure the strength of the nutrient solution.

Q. Do I need any additives with CloneQuest Nutrients?

A. No, you do not need any additives. Just follow our feed charts and adjust to your plants needs.

Q: Are there things you should not be using with the CloneQuest Nutrient line such as calcium or other additives?

A: We recommend keeping it super simple with our line, only adding a Silica if you prefer. The more stuff you start to add the more you have to play with the ratios of our nutrients to adjust for the NPK levels of the additives.

Q: What is the optimal water temperature for feeding my plants?

A: 67 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

Q: Can I use CloneQuest Nutrients with or in soil?

A: Yes, our nutrients are compatible with ALL growing mediums. Soil typically requires less EC than hydroponics, 1.6-1.8 is usually a safe range depending on your soil of course.

Q: Can CloneQuest Nutrients be used with or in DWC/RDWC (recirculating systems)?

A: Yes, our nutrients can be used in a RDWC setup. It is recommended to do a complete reservoir change out every 7-14 days. A good rule of thumb is to top off your reservoir with fresh water without any nutrients added, and adjust PH in between complete reservoir changes. Users will typically run a lower EC in veg and bloom (1.6-2.0).

Q: How often should I change my reservoir in a deep water culture (DWC/RDWC) setup?

A: We recommend changing the full reservoir at least once every 7-14 days in a DWC or RDWC system. Once a week to match the feeding schedule is optimal.

Q: If I want to add Power SI , what order should I add them?

A:

1.    Power si

2.    Part 1

3.    Part 2

4.    Part 3

Q: I ordered the CloneQuest Nutrients Kit, do I need to feed every watering, every other watering, or once a week with the nutrient water solution?

A: Feed every watering in DWC, rockwool or coco. In soil it depends on what elements are already in the blend.

Q: How long do CloneQuest Nutrients stay good in a reservoir?

A: Most change the reservoir once a week when only using our nutrients, but it could last up to 2 months with agitation to prevent the water from becoming stagnant. 7 days max once incorporating any other additive.

Q: Do I need to agitate or mix the nutrients in the reservoir?

A: You do not need constant agitation, just a few minutes every 30-60 minutes and/or before irrigation events are best practices.

Q: Can I add more nutrients to my already mixed solution or reservoir?

A: Yes, just make sure you are adding the parts in the same ratio and are achieving your EC.

Q: Can I add other nutrients or additives in with CloneQuest Nutrients?
A: Yes, you would need to monitor the EC levels and make sure the additional nutrients are mixed in after completely dissolving the CloneQuest Nutrients.

Q: Can I grow from start to finish using only CloneQuest Nutrients?
A: Yes. See our Super Simple Feeding Schedule.

Q: Do your nutrients have microbial properties?
A: No

Q: Can I switch to CloneQuest Nutrients mid cycle?
A: We do not recommend changing nutrients after week 3 of bloom.

Q: Do you recommend recirculating or drain to waste with your nutrients?

A: We never recommend a recirculation setup. Drain to waste is pretty standard in Big Ag and commercial grows. Below are a few reasons that make drain to waste the optimal option.

1.     pH doesn’t fluctuate as much.

2.     Ability to feed a fresh nutrient solution each watering.

3.     Less chance of developing root rot.

4.     System itself stays cleaner.

5.     You are able to flush properly.

6.     Better control over what is being fed to your plants.

Depending on your growing medium you should only have 2-10% runoff.

Q: What is the mixing order when using a Silica with CloneQuest Nutrients.

A: Silicate is added first, allow it to sit in the reservoir for 5 minutes before adding anything else. Lastly you would mix in the CloneQuest Nutrients in order of our Full Tilt Schedule..

Q: Can I use Power Si at their recommended dosage.

A: Yes.

Q: Do I start the week 3 nutrients at day 15 or day 21?
A: Day 15.

Q: Can your nutrients be used in soil?

A: Many in soil typically start at a lower strength feed (50-80%), depending on what elements are already in your soil, then decrease or increase as needed based on plant response.

Q: Is it okay to feed at the recommended EC if I only feed once a day?

A: Gauge plant responses, ensure 20-25% runoff and keep an eye on the runoff ph, since you will have less control over drybacks when hand watering. Raise the EC if the runoff pH is drifting more than .5 upwards or you notice deficiencies/light green growth. Decrease EC if the pH runoff is dropping more than .5 of the input and/or you see tip burn.

Q: Can or should I use CalMag with CloneQuest Nutrients?

A: Additional CalMag is not needed with our nutrients. But you can run the Full Tilt Schedule at 90% strength when buffering your water with CalMag.

Q: Do I adjust EC or pH first?

A. Adjust your pH after you hit your target EC.

Q: Can I use enzymes or CalMag along with the CloneQuest Nutrients in my RDWC/DWC system?

A: Yes, you can use enzymes with our nutrients in your RDWC setup, but additional CalMag is not needed

Q: What is the maximum starting water EC for CloneQuest Nutrients.

A: We recommend that your starting water be under 0.7 EC before adding nutrients, an RO system is needed for anything above.

Q: What EC should I feed my clones?

A: Follow our feed schedule.

Q: If I Veg for longer than the 2 weeks, what should I do?

A: Extend week 2 of Veg for the extra weeks.

Q: Do I need additional CalMag if my tap water has a starting EC of 0.2-0.4?

A: Our nutrients do not need CalMag no matter the starting water EC.

Q: What EC do you recommend for mother/mom plants?

A: An 3.0 EC, is recommended for mother/mom plants.

Q: What pH do you recommend for veg?

A:

1.    Coco - 5.6-6.0 pH

2.    Soil -  6.0-6.3 pH

3.    Rockwool / DWC - 5.5-5.8 ph

Q: What pH do you recommend for bloom or the flower stage?

A:

1.    Coco - 5.9-6.2 ph

2.    Soil -  6.2-6.5 ph

3.    Rockwool / Dwc - 5.6-5.9 ph

Q: Do CloneQuest Nutrients need to be pH’d after making a reservoir?

A: Our nutrients are pH stable, and may need to be adjusted initially based on your starting water. With municipal water you will typically not need to adjust initially. If needed it’s typically pH down.

Foliar Spray

Q: What time do you recommend spraying the Foliars?

A: 1 hour before the lights are on, or with low light intensity until the leaves are dry.

Q: Should I pH my foliar solution?

A: Yes, 5.5-6.0 pH depending on your medium.

Q: Can I use Foliar spray on my clones or during propagation?

A: Yes, you can and they love it.

Q: How often should I spray my clones with CloneQuest Foliar?

A: Once every 5-7 days.

Q: How often should I use the Foliar Spray?

A: Use the Foliar Spray once a week throughout the vegetative stage.

Q: How often should I use the Foliar in bloom?

A: Days 1, 7, 14 of bloom, or every 5-7 days until roughly day 14.

Q: Should I feed my pants nutrients on the same day as I apply the Foliar solution?

A: Yes, spray the Foliar and feed on the same day.

Q: Is it ok to spray the Foliar with the lights on, or should they be off when spraying?

A: We recommend spraying 1 hour before lights on or under low light intensity until the leaves dry (less than 400 umol).

Q: Can I mix Power Si and/or Power Si bloom with CloneQuest Foliar?

A: Yes, they can be sprayed together, first mix the Silica and then the Foliar nutrients.

Q: What is the foliar spray for?

A.

1.    During veg Foliar is sprayed onto the plants to help promote faster, healthier plants in the vegetative stage.

2.    During bloom Foliar is sprayed onto the plants to help promote earlier onset of flower sites.

Q: For the first week of Veg Foliar do you spray them every day or just that first day?

A: Just the first day and every 5-7 days after.

Q:  Can I make less than a gallon of Foliar Spray.

A: Yes, use half the recommended dose.
